Introducing a financial incentive scheme to encourage financial services industry practitioners to acquire and upgrade professional skills in the asset and wealth management field

The Financial Incentive Scheme for Professional Training (“Scheme”) aims:


  1. to enhance the competency and professionalism of in-service practitioners within the asset and wealth management (“WAM”) sector; and
  2. to assist other practitioners within the financial services industry in acquiring the knowledge and skills required for entering the asset and wealth management field.


The Scheme was initially launched from 1 October 2016 for a three-year period. The Scheme has been extended until 31 March 2023 with an expanded scope of eligible practitioners as well as open for organisers of conference. Details can be found under respective sections in the Guide to Applicants and Guide to Conference Subsidy Application.


A) The Scheme for Individual Applicants


A wide range of training programmes, seminars and conferences relevant to WAM business offered by various reputable professional institutions are eligible under the Scheme.  For more information about the eligible programmes and seminars, please refer to Eligible Training Programmes. The list of eligible training programmes will be updated regularly.


Eligible applicants will be reimbursed 80% of the eligible course(s) fees upon satisfactory completion of the course(s), subject to a maximum of $10,000 (Note: The cap was $7,000 prior to 17 April 2020.) per person throughout the period of 1 October 2016 to 31 March 2023.


Eligible training programmes and seminars in live webinars has been approved effective from 1 August 2020, i.e. pre-recorded webinars will be out of scope.


In view of the fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic, the scope of the Scheme has been expanded to benefit more industry practitioners. Financial services licensees in between jobs within the two year period from 17 April 2020 to 31 March 2022 will be eligible to apply for subsidies under the Scheme. B) The Scheme for Conference Organisers


In response to the demand for high quality conferences in the financial industry, the Scheme has implemented the Conference Subsidy for the period from 1 July 2020 to 31 March 2023. The initiative is to sponsor the conference organiser, who is a non-profit making institution or is a recognised professional body / higher education institution / eligible training provider in Hong Kong.
