

Participating Employers
Financial institutions meeting the eligibility criteria and able to offer meaningful WAM-related work assignments ranging from 1 to 3 months in the WAM sector are welcome to apply to be Participating Employers (PE). The internship positions offered should be able to facilitate student interns' understanding of the various functional roles in the WAM sector.
Eligibility (PE)
Companies or organisations from the following WAM sub-sectors may apply to offer internship positions under the SIP as Participating Employers (“PEs”) :-
- financial institutions licensed by or registered with the :-
- Securities and Futures Commission under the Securities and Futures Ordinance (Cap.571) to carry out
- Type 4 (advising on securities) regulated activity; or
- Type 9 (asset management) regulated activity; or
- Type 13 (providing depositary services for relevant Collective Investment Schemes) regulated activity; or
- Hong Kong Monetary Authority; or
- Securities and Futures Commission under the Securities and Futures Ordinance (Cap.571) to carry out
- insurers authorised or insurance intermediaries licensed under the Insurance Ordinance (Cap.41); or
- firms or corporate practices registered with the Accounting and Financial Reporting Council; or
- trust companies registered under Part 8 of the Trustee Ordinance (Cap. 29); or
- trustees approved by the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority under the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Ordinance (Cap. 485); or
- trusts or company service providers licensed by the Companies Registry under the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing Ordinance (Cap. 615).
Student interns can only be hired to work for a PE. If the PE is not the hiring company, both the PE and the hiring company must be under the same parent group company with sufficient proof (e.g. organisation chart, annual return) provided for validation of the relationship. The parent group company should hold more than 50% shareholding of both the PE and hiring company.
Subsidy
The HKSAR Government will subsidise the participating employers up to 80% or HK$8,000 (whichever is lower) of the honorarium paid to the student intern on a 1 month basis, up to a maximum of 3 months per year for each student intern.
SIP 2025/26: PE Application Schedule
Eligible employers fulfilling the requirements stipulated in the “Student Internship Programme – Guide for Participating Employers” can submit a Participating Employer Application online during the application period(s) specified.

When submitting an online application, an applicant is required to
- read the Important Notes carefully;
- fill in the electronic application form;
- upload copies of supporting documents; and
- read and acknowledge Declaration and Notes About Handling of Information.
The application will be vetted and endorsed by the Vetting Committee before the applicant is approved as a PE. The applicant will be notified of the results, as well as the quota allocated through email.
